Taffy sit down with Tanya Chirimuta giving us a exclusive into the beauty industry and the go to brands for black woman
Could you introduce yourself for our readers?
Hi, my name is Taffy mostly known as Beautywithtaffy. I am a self taught makeup artist and I share my love and passion for all things beauty through content creation and freelance artistry.
When and how did you get into beauty industry?
I got into the beauty industry 6 years ago after being encouraged by college friends to take makeup seriously. I began by opening an Instagram page but being a content creator and freelance makeup artist was not the goal. I just thought this would be a hobby that I share from time to time until I realized how much I love doing it and the opportunities that could come with me taking makeup seriously.
How would you describe your signature look?
I would like to think of myself as a free-flowing artist as my art can go from soft glam/ clean beauty to editorial artistic makeup looks. In saying this I am probably known for my colorful eyeshadow looks. I love playing in color while making it wearable.

How has the industry changed since you began, do you think opening for black makeup artist?
I think the industry has definitely progressed since I began, and this is due to awareness being brought to light about issues regarding diversity and inclusivity. From struggling to find a matching foundation to now having a considerable amount of choices shows the progress that has taken place. Honorable mention to Fenty Beauty for paving the way and setting pace for other brand to aspire to. In saying this though, there is always room for change and improvements. As it relates to black makeup artists there is more opportunities and acknowledgement however I feel there is a fine line between being genuinely celebrated and feeling like a “token”. I believe that with more education and awareness, further progress can be made in order for the industry to reach some equal ground as it relates to including black artists
What are you top 5 make up brands?
My top 5 makeup brands are Makeup revolution, Huda Beauty, Juvia's Place, Morphe and Anastasia Beverly Hills. The reason why I love these brands is this effort to be inclusive and this is important to me as a black woman in the industry.
